The three Bristol City Learning Centres have collectively worked to create three GCSE courses, with accompanying web sites, aimed at raising student achievement with the use of ICT .
The Applied ICT GCSE course has been designed to meet the EdExcel specification and lessons are divided into Units One, Two and Three. It is anticipated the Unit One will be delivered first. There are video clips which accompany some lesson plans, particularly noteworthy is the Supermarket Visit in Unit Two which gives students an understanding of an IT system as a joined-up experience. Footage covers parts of a system like home delivery systems and back office systems which would be difficult for teachers to organise as part of a school trip.
The GCSE Revision Sessions have been designed to give comprehensive review of the core curriculum for GCSE English, Maths and Science. There are six lesson plans for each subject, each one to be delivered over 90 minutes. The lessons use different software programs that are freely available on the front page of the website and are best delivered in conjunction with Promethean Interactive Whiteboards.
These courses have been planned using a Lesson Plan template which covers the objectives, resources, lesson process, plenary and outcomes. In order to access all the resources it may be necessary for teachers to click on the lesson pack buttons and extract the files.
"DiDA is the Diploma in Digital Applications, a revolutionary suite of paperless qualifications from Edexcel that focuses on the practical application of technology." - Edexcel. DiDA qualifications prepare students for the real world of work or further education. They are designed to stimulate students creativity and develop real-world, practical skills that will motivate learning across a wide range of subjects.

An online revision course in English, Science and Maths for Year 11 students in Bristol schools. These sessions will be available online and will also be delivered during January to May, 2005 in the three City Learning Centres in Bristol.
The aim of these sessions is to provide support for students in the core GCSE subjects. Each subject programme consists of six 1.5 hour lessons covering the essential aspects of the GCSE exams, which will provide students with practice in exam skills. Lesson plans and resources use best practice ICT materials that focus specifically on the demands of each subject's examination papers. |

A group of 18 Year 11 students have spent the last few months working on the new DiDA qualification at CLC3.
These teenagers are following a fast-track course whereby they are completing AIDA (D201) and CiDA (D202) over six months, with the aim of achieving the equivalent of two GCSE passes in June 2006.
Their course has been based entirely in the CLC, where they have been taught skills in web-design, desk top publishing, photo editing, movie-making and lots of other ICT applications.
They are completing e-portfolios for both courses, which will hopefully be available to share on this space in the very near future.

The three CLCs in Bristol are working together with Henbury and St. Bernadettes secondary schools in an exciting new venture.
Each Year 10 student in these two schools, will be contributing to a scheme, whereby he/she will use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) in GCSE Science. PDAs are handheld computers which will enable students and teachers to explore science resources in class and at home. There are endless possibilities in the ways that teaching and learning will be interactive and meaningful, using these devices.
This project is due to start in September, 2006 and run through to June 2008
